Paul was found dead in an alley on the South Side of Chicago on May 2nd, 1938. In the late 1930s, Norman was teaching at the University of Chicago and Paul followed him there, working on a master's degree, which he had almost completed. Many people who knew Paul said he was known to have a temper and didn't back down from a fight. After graduating from Dartmouth in the 1920s, Paul went to work as a journalist, employed at various newspapers in Montana. ![]() In the film version of A River Runs Through It, Paul was played by Brad Pitt. Paul Maclean was the brother of author and teacher Norman Maclean, who wrote a semi-autobiographical account of their relationship in the book A River Runs Through It. ![]()
